My Memories

Dad had a deep commitment to the success of our family. I understand the devotion to faith, family and career. At times he worked almost around the clock in his banking career to establish himself and provide for a growing family of four. At times he was rarely at home, and having a lot of his emotion we could lock horns at the drop of a hat. I would exploit the wait till your Father comes home. But he was also the Dad who taught me to swim while we lived at Woodstock. Helped me to learn to garden and earn a merit scout badge while at Appin. I never realized his banking expertise was in helping the farming and rural communities to fulfill their dreams, and at times deal with challenging situations farmers experienced. I watched and worked alongside him constructing storm window frames for a drafty farm house. He taught me to handle a firearm and become involved in the Port Perry Rod and Gun Club. When we would visit his parents on St. Josephs Island, early morning fishing experiences, or wading thru creeks for the smelt run. On hunting and fishing trips we would search for moose while staying at the cottage. Moving to Collingwood, I exchanged my rod and gun for my brothers small dirt bike to get me around. The complimentary skidoo snow machine was a challenge to get the proper fuel mix to get the most fun out of the opportunity. After many moves and many miles, I struck out on my own with about $80 I had managed to save to begin a life when Mom and Dad were transferred to London. When I moved to Toronto, and needed a vehicle, it was Dad again with his bank connections who co signed my first loan. I never missed a payment. At that time 25% of my income went to the monthly payments. I believe the work ethic that Mom and Dad displayed thru the challenges of life, made my struggles build integrity. After they were transferred to London, I would visit from Toronto for Christmas, Thanksgiving etc. I had my personal experience with Jesus Christ during that time in 1973. While I slept the voice of the Lord said to me, I am coming and you are not ready. The name I did not know, came from my spirit when I woke up. Jesus, I dont know what to do show me He did and I found my Lord and Savior. I remember the first trip home, meeting them at the door of their apartment to spill out my experience. "Your prayers have been answered." Like the faithfulness my Mom and Dad experienced from their trust in Him, I as well, married to Bonnie established a family of our own with 4 grandchildren. To Mom and Dad, great grandchildren. Sienna, Anjali, Owen and Austin, children of Rachel and Cherie. During the last days with Dad, we shared the goodness of God, prayed for each other, and tried to make his days as enjoyable as possible. My last three visits found him asleep in his chair, or in his bed. After a life of challenges, it was good to see him at rest. Now he has truly entered his rest. Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who Hears my Word, and believes Him who sent Me (The Father) has eternal life, and does not come into judgement but has passed out of death into life." John 5:24 And a favorite of mine And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life; He who does not have the son of God does not have life. Dad supported many ministries and Pastors, his heart was where his treasure was in His Lord and God Jesus Christ. He looked forward to being called home to where He has gone to prepare a place for me Thanks Dad rest in peace
