Obituary for John Finlay Stewart

Stewart, John Finlay

We lost a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend on March 21, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Mary Jo and John Stewart; his brothers, Joe (Cindy), Brian (Nikki), and Greg (Roz); his niece, Andie; and nephews, John Alan, Michael, James, and Lenny.

John will also be remembered by his maternal aunts and uncles, Paul Kelly (Jill), Bob Pfaff, Barb Kelly (Gary), Cathy Kelly (Blair), Jim Kelly (Michele), Janette Kelly-Stanley (Doug), Brian Kelly (Ann Marie), and their families, as well as his paternal aunts, Mary Lynne Patterson, Jo Ann Stewart Moore, and Sandra Stewart, and their families.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, Joe & Ella Mae Kelly and Finn and Molly Stewart, along with Aunt Gail Pfaff and Uncle Roger Stewart.

John was known for his hilarious, fun-loving nature and he kept us all laughing right up to the end. He was a talented athlete and sports fanatic. John was a big kid at heart - a quality adored by his niece and nephews. His kindness and generosity were the heart of his character. John was fiercely loyal and protective of those he loved, always putting others before himself.

We are so grateful for the time we had with John and will keep him in our hearts forever.

We cannot thank the incredible staff of the Grand River's ICU enough for the compassion and expert care they provided to John. Special thanks to his family physician, Dr. Jan Piskorz.

Private cremation has taken place. A private celebration of John's life will take place.

In memory of John, donations to Grand River Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Cards may be placed by calling the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467.
