Passed away peacefully with family by his side at Hamilton General Hospital on Friday, March 17, 2023 a week before his 86th birthday.
Beloved husband of Clara (nee Maltais) for over 63 years. Loving father of Michael Schmidt (Debbie) and Karen Schmidt. Proud Grandpa of Brandon Schmidt (Rachel) and Nicole Kuehl (Dustin) and great-grandfather of Carter and Malia. Son of the late John and Susanna Schmidt. Dear brother-in-law of Andrew Maltais (late Shirley) and the late Larry Maltais. Uncle of George, John (Christine) and Peter (Lisa).
John was an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. He spent his free time traveling at great length with his loving wife Clara. John loved spending time with family, playing cards with friends and checkers with his grandson. He spent 19 years working in the office at Uniroyal and then went on to work at J.M. Schneider's for 25 years. John was known for his precise routines and meticulous organization...everything was always well planned out. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
John's family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519) 749-8467. Memorial service in the chapel on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow. Cremation has taken place.
A private interment will take place at a later date.
