Obituary for John Baer

Baer, John:

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, 10 days after his 41st wedding anniversary, John Baer “Dear” died.
With the love of his life, Debbie Baer, and his daughter, Jenni-Rebecca Baer at his bedside, John, as he had lived, humbly and with grace, left this world at the age of 78.

John had many special people in his life that will miss him dearly. In addition to his daughter and wife, John leaves behind his sons, John Jr, and Daniel, his former son-in-law and dear friend, Mark, grandchildren, Rene, who called him Papa Baer, as well as Jessi, Elijah, and Morgan, 6 siblings, Dave, Mary, Martha, Peter, Elizabeth, and Rachel, and a large extended family.

John was a well-respected and dedicated WRDSB principal for over three decades, leading many schools and opening Country Hills and Glencairn, prior to his retirement in 1997.

If you were fortunate enough to have him as your Principal, you were given a supreme gift. John led his schools, knowing that all children could blossom and succeed, that relationships were the foundation of education, and by championing the educators and staff in his building, anything was possible.

John was overjoyed when his daughter followed in his footsteps and became an administrator with the WRDSB, although this career choice came as no surprise to others, as he was her hero.

In retirement, John and Debbie built a country home on 64 acres outside of Paisley that saw them spending some of their happiest times working in their gardens, hosting dear friends, and enjoying one of their many beautiful spots for ‘Happy Hour’.

The love story between John and Debbie was truly one of a kind. They were one another’s best friends, partners, and inspirations. Together, they made anything feel possible.

John, Debbie, and Jenni-Rebecca were affectionately known as the ‘Three Baer’s’ and the loss of John leaves behind an incredible hole in our hearts, but also the legacy that hard work, relationships, and dedication when you believe in something, can make a positive and long lasting difference.

John was a private man and it was his wish that no ceremony be held, but instead we welcome you to throw on an Elvis song and raise a glass of wine to John, a husband, father, brother, friend and mentor to so many. Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 519-749-8467.

We honestly love you, John Baer “Dear”.
