Obituary for Joan Masters

Masters (nee Riordan), Joan:

Dearly loved Mother, Nana, Sister and friend, passed away peacefully in her room at Chartwell Westmount Long Term Care Residence in Kitchener on Tuesday, July 5 in her 85th year. Joan is survived by her sons Fred Jr. (Kathy) and Paul (Sue), grandchildren Andrew, Brendan, Emily and Laura. Also survived by brother Jack (Rose Marie) and sisters Terri Knott and Barbara Massiah. Predeceased by her soulmate, husband Fred Sr., her parents Norman and Evelyn Riordan, sister Sr. M. Evelyn, C.S.J. and brother Dick. Joan was blessed with an incredibly strong faith, and a nurturing spirit. She was a Registered Nurse, serving at both St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener and in private duty settings for many years. Joan was a long-time active parishioner at St. Anthony Daniel R.C. Parish in Kitchener where she served in many capacities including Eucharistic Minister and Lector in addition to being a proud member of the parish’s Catholic Women’s League.

Special thanks to the superb caregivers, support team and medical professionals who provided Joan with exemplary support at Chartwell Westmount over the past eighteen months.

Joan’s family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. (prayers at 7 p.m.) on Monday, July 11 at Henry Walser Funeral Home in Kitchener. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony Daniel R.C. Church, Kitchener on Tuesday, July 12 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Life Center. Private interment to take place.
