Catch

I have fond memories of playing catch with my Dad. I bet we totalled thousands of hours throwing that baseball back and forth whether it was practicing for the upcoming season, stress relief, fun, or just to spend time together. I remember one season getting hit in the head by a pop fly because I was blinded by the sun trying to catch the hitter out. Dad took me to the hospital and I ended up with 12 stitches and quite a shiner above my right eye. After that, I became quite afraid of the ball but that didn't stop our sessions of playing catch. Little did I know then that he was formulating his own exposure therapy for me to get me back in the game. Little by little those games of catch helped me along so that I gained the confidence again to play ball and not be afraid of getting hit again. I passed that ritual down to my own son and we have played countless hours of catch as well. Neither one of us had an arm like Dad though - man could he throw a fast ball!
