Obituary for Irma Neumann

Neumann, Irma

After a short illness, Irma (nee Kurtz) Neumann went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on March 1, 2023.

Greatly loved, she will be missed by her husband Adolf Neumann, her children Carolyn (Ian) VanderBurgh and David (Erin) Neumann, by her four grandsons, Joshua, Daniel, Benjamin and Wesley, by her sister, Selma (Reinhold) Buchholz, by her sisters-in-law Charlotte Neumann and Lydia (Gunter) Meier, as well as by many nieces and nephews. Many special friends will also miss their frequent phone conversations with her. Irma was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Adele Kurtz.

Irma was born on November 11, 1941, in Klein Dembe, Poland. During World War II, Irma, Adele and Selma were forced to flee their home and live as refugees. After the war when the family was reunited with Alexander, they immigrated to Alberta in 1949 and lived on a farm near Bashaw. In 1958, the family moved to Kitchener, Ontario where she met Adolf Neumann and was married in 1961. They made their church home at Immanuel Pentecostal Church in Kitchener and spent many summers at Bethel Park Camp, southwest of St. Thomas, Ontario.

After graduating from the Ontario Business College, Irma worked for many years at TD Bank. After the births of Carolyn and David, she stayed at home, looking after the family and ensuring that everyone was well cared for. She also provided care to several neighbourhood children at lunch and after school times. Volunteering in various places, Irma helped out in her children's classrooms, was the treasurer of the Women's Ministries of IPC where she also volunteered with the mid-week children's program, and assisted in the summer children's camp at Bethel Park. After moving to Baden in 1995, Irma increasingly looked after her parents until their deaths in 2007 at Nithview Home in New Hamburg. Even though her parents had passed away, she and Adolf continued to help with feeding residents and with the Sunday service for many, many years.

Many of our memories of Oma take place in the kitchen where she was always the last to sit down at the table after making sure everyone had enough. She was always interested in the lives of others, helped where she could, and enjoyed spending time with her grandsons for whom she prayed daily.
