Nudyk, Irene Elizabeth:
(nee Houghton)
With her husband Walter at her side, Irene passed away at the Freeport Health Center of Grand River Hospital on Friday, September 11th, 2020 at the age of 86.

Beloved wife of 45 years to Walter Andrew Nudyk.
Survived by her children, Scott (Nicole) Nudyk, Gary (Bernice) Vannatter, and Brad (Patty) Vannatter; her grandchildren, Zachary, Janine, Cameron (Dana), Jackie (Steve), Melissa (Matt) and Jillian; and her great grandchildren, Grace, Willow, Ashley, Jaydon, Kurtis, Owen and Emerson.

At age 4, her mother Irene Mildred and her baby sister died, months later in the same year, her father Frank Edward Walker died. She is also predeceased by her brother William Rodger and her granddaughter Leanne Vandommelen.

Family time was very important to Irene, she would enjoy and celebrate any occasion with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Irene's lifetime career was spent in many facets of Accounting across a wide range of industries.

She was a devoted parishioner of St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, Elora, where she served as Past People’s Warden, Treasurer, and Envelope Secretary.

Irene was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi - Epsilon Beta Chapter, where she served as past president and presented with Girl of the Year 1966 - 1967.

Volunteered at Anselma House as a Peer Supporter, and St. John's Kilmarnock School in assisting in various ways from fund raising and lunches for junior school.

Past member of the Westmount Golf and Country Club.
An avid reader, having been taught by her mother and godmother, before starting kindergarten, and continued to sharpen her word skills by playing Scrabble with the youngest and oldest of the family. Playing a variety of card games with family and close friends kept Irene able to take her mind off her physical pain. In earlier years, she volunteered to play with seniors at nursing homes to entertain them. Playing cards helped on visits to Casinos in various places visited including Vegas and Halifax. Any winnings Irene made all would immediately be given to some charitable cause at the time..

Irene, by the help of her Godparents achieved Grade 8 piano. In childhood days, she played for concerts and competitions, in adulthood she was seen enjoying many musical productions. Her fond memories were of attending the Tony Awards and Gala for many years in NYC along with the musical productions then playing. In 1985, she did a radio segment on CFCA radio about a Broadway Salute!

She loved to fish at various Ontario fishing resorts, but taking a float plane into remote areas was a fabulous thrill. And the shore lunches were the best. In fact, it was the only time when she would sit quietly for hours and not be her usual up and down – got to do this or that. Unfortunately, I had to cancel our Fishing charter for the Bay of Quinte this coming Saturday.

Swimming, she enjoyed for the therapeutic relief and being with family in the pool. Travelling gave Irene real excitement and pleasure. She travelled to England, where she always remarked that her maiden name Houghton traces back to the Doomsday Book, through France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the Jersey Islands. Her American trips included family visits, for years she enjoyed attending the Tony Awards and Gala Reception in NYC, Sedona's Red Rocks and Vortexes, the River Cruise from St. Petersburg, Hot Air Balloon adventures were exciting, but especially once when the pilot took a family of Mennonite children up and back as gratitude for them helping fold the balloon. Travelling by horse, jets, trains, planes, helicopter, hot air balloons, float planes, cruise ships, hydrofoil ships, and river boats would add to the thrill of finding treasures of antiques, folk-art, and local artisan crafts in other parts of the world and she used them at home when celebrating occasions with family and friends. The food and wines were fantastic culinary adventures from places visited.
She was known for her Frog collection which surrounded her deck in her Winterbourne Home. She also collected many pieces of Canadian Crystal from Halifax as Walter and Irene spent considerable time there over the years.

Irene loved the Monarchy and at birth, she was given her middle name after Princess Elizabeth.
Over the years from childhood Irene diligently took care of herself, her skin was beautifully soft and pearly smooth.
