When I was a little girl in Gottschee, our Parish, which consisted of Ebental, Setsch, Tiefental, and Kukendorf, celebrated Kirchtag (Kirtok), and all the Gasthäuser were filled with guests. To get rid of having me underfoot in my Grandparents Mausser's Gasthaus, my father and uncles gave me some Dinar to go buy myself some cookies and other treats at the stands set up in the streets. I really wasn't big enough to do that, so Ida came to my rescue. She took me by the hand and led me from stand to stand to pick out little bags of cookies and candies. Sadly, I cannot remember whether I shared my loot with her - I can only hope I did - but all these many years later I have never forgotten her kindness. I've always thought of her as my oldest friend. Rest in Peace, Ida.
