Eulogy

Mom - Gwendolyn Jean Linley (nee Anderson)
April 19, 1935 to April 14, 2021 age 85

Mom, you were always a straightforward person. For you, life was about doing your best to help family, friends and community. Your home was filled with pictures of the people you loved and you kept this poem on your fridge.

One Day at a Time
Whatever the goal we’re pursuing
no matter how rugged the climb,
we’re certain to get there by trying our best,
and taking one day at a time.
“Forever” is hard to imagine,
“the future” may seem far away, but every new dawn,
brings a wonderful chance,
to do what we can on that day.
Emily Matthews

First and foremost you were a ‘home-maker’ in the truest sense of the word. You stayed home to raise Joan and I and to support Dad in his career. You were a faithful soulmate for Dad, sticking like glue to each other in good times and bad, for 65 years to the day. You seldom complained, except to lament why people couldn’t just be nicer to each other.

You helped seniors learn new skills at calligraphy classes in various seniors’ homes. You spent hours on the floor with all the kids doing crafty things together. You were known as ‘Tupper’ for helping women with their houseware needs. You helped folks with their clothing needs as a Budd’s sales associate, and for years you worked Friday nights at the Remnant Shop helping ladies create clothing for their own families. Before Covid, you and Dad brought greetings to seniors on behalf of the church. You were a source of laughter at family events and could be counted on to cap off celebratory meals with your signature lemon dessert.

You were a loving daughter, sister & sister-in-law, cousin, friend, wife, auntie, Mom & mother-in-law, Grandma, Great-Grandma and above all, a sweet person - a lady through and through. You did get frustrated from time to time especially in recent months. You were getting forgetful and perhaps didn’t realize how all your roles so deeply enriched the lives of others. Your legacy is that you accomplished your goal of helping others, and you did it just as the poem says - One Day at a Time.

On behalf of all your family and friends.
Rest in peace Mom. You will be cherished and remembered forever.
Your loving son, Rick.
