Obituary for Greig Allan Hicks

Hicks, Greig Allan

It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, dad, grampa/poppa and poppa li li, Greig Allan Hicks, on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, comfortably at home with his three favourites: his wife of 67 years, Donna and daughters, Heather and Linda. Born in Schumacher, Ontario, in 1933, Greig grew up being an avid sports lover and became one of the region’s best hockey and baseball players. His hockey career would take him from Northern Ontario to the South, where he played with the Kitchener Greenshirts and Dutchmen of the OHL, Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Hockey League and the Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League. Greig was proud to have also signed a C-Form with the Montreal Canadiens. A major eye injury would return him to Northern Ontario where he set down his roots, raised his family and worked for Spruce Falls in Kapuskasing. Upon retirement, he and Donna moved South to be with his girls and their families and continue to enjoy life to its fullest. Wherever he went Greig made forever friends, cherished his family and left a huge impact on so many. The family will hold a private service for Greig with an open house to be planned in the near future.
