Obituary for Gloria Matilda Mary Hellard (Roth)

Hellard, Gloria (Roth):
Passed away at Freeport Hospital Palliative Care in Kitchener, on August 19, 2019 after a one year difficult battle with ovarian cancer. She is survived by her nephew Donald Roth (Connie), niece Heather Bergsma (Ed), Marg Roth, several great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Eric Hellard in 1981, by her parents Pierce and Edith Roth and her brother Paul Roth in 2013. Also predeceased by both a niece and a nephew.
Gloria was born in Cambridge (Preston) Ontario several years after the First World War. After high school graduation, she moved to Ottawa to pursue secretarial training and a post with the Civil Service in Ottawa, supporting the military. She married Eric in 1948 and they moved to London Ontario where Gloria worked at the military base where she served with distinction and was awarded many accolades over the years for her precise attention to detail and very caring and attentive people skills. After her retirement in 1988 following 45 years in the Civil Service, Gloria moved to Kitchener, Ontario to be closer to family.
Gloria was active in her Parish Church, St Aloysius. In her retirement she also took up oil painting under the instruction of Michael Roth (no relation) and became accomplished in the art. Her artwork hangs in homes in Canada, Ireland and Italy to name a few. Gloria was a fabulous cook, baker, sewist, and enjoyed sharing her gifts with others. She loved to travel, especially to her favourite, Rome Italy.
Gloria endeared herself to people great and small, all were important to her. She strove to make the world a better place by caring for others and serving them in any way she could. Most who knew her counted it a privilege to know her, she did indeed bring love to her fellow man. As a family we will miss her gentle nature and her sweet smile, but are comforted by the fact she is free from suffering and in the heavenly home she had anticipated.
