Obituary for Glenn H. Thompson

Thompson, Glenn H.

The family of Glenn H. Thompson is saddened to announce his passing on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital, after a 13-year battle with the ravages of Alzheimer’s, and recently Covid-19 and pneumonia.

Glenn was the dearly and deeply loved husband of Donna for 61 years. He was a devoted father to his 3 daughters Lynne Hoffmann (Terry), Lori Finney (Paul) and Lisa Thompson (David Ball). He was the step-grandfather of Ben, Ainsley, Jessica, Gavin, and Julie (deceased.)

Glenn was born in Almonte, ON on March 27, 1936 and grew up on the family farm. He was third in a family of 6. He is survived by Rodger Thompson (Alice), David Thompson, Joyce Thompson (Lennie) and Heather Thompson. He was predeceased by his older sister Patricia Gunn (Arnold). Fondly remembered by Donna’s brother and sister, Brian Rintoul (Gwen) and Doreen Glandon (Bob), as well as 5 nephews and 1 niece.

After high school, Glenn taught for two years in a 1-room school near his family farm. He then went on to O.A.C in Guelph for 4 years, graduating in May 1961. At that time, he was offered a job as an Assistant Agriculture Representative for Leeds and Grenville Counties, and the family lived in Brockville for 5 years. In 1966 he was offered the opportunity to be the Agriculture Representative for Waterloo County - where he stayed until his retirement in 1993. Glenn loved his work in Waterloo, with its rich diversity of agriculture and people.

After retirement, Glenn worked at different jobs, like driving for dealerships, and for many years was the secretary manager of a new agriculture venture with the Ratite Association.
