Karola, Harold and extended Welsand family,
From the Bayer family in Wisconsin, USA (Andrew, Laurene, Genevieve, Chase, Silken, Marcail, Celeste) - We are sorry that due to travel restrictions, we can not attend Uncle Gerhard's services. When I reflect on the life of Uncle Gerhard the bible verses of Romans 10:11-13 come to mind. Verse 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame. 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Uncle Gerhard had many, many outstanding qualities; (too many to list) one that always stood out for me - was that he did not judge others. He accepted everyone, with kindness and a humble spirit. He kept the peace, reminded others not to judge. Uncle Gerhard and his loving wife of 62 years (Karola), were the hardest working couple around, always opening their home to family and friends, always making a meal for someone. They were a beacon of friendship and kindness to there neighbors in Kitchener and Sauble Beach.

Everyone loved Onkel Gerhard. On fishing trips, he made sure your line and lewer were always set, helped you out at every turn, made sure you enjoyed your time on the boat. When I reflect on Gerhard and Karola - "behind every successful man is an exhausted women". Karola was a saint! She stood with Gerhard for 62 yrs, what a tribute to there marriage and beliefs.

Gerhard was like a McGiver - could fix anything. Hanging out at their cottage was a treat for the Bayer family in the 70's & 80's. I have a crystal clear memory of the actual day in Toronto, Ont of Uncle Gerhard and Tante Karola purchasing their Viceroy cottage. Uncle Gerhard was ecstatic.

Always remember the Welsand's drove a nice German car - Gerhard always made sure it was well kept & well cared for. His gardens and flowers at their home were immaculate. Uncle Gerhard appreciated life - he seemed to appreciate every breath, was grateful for every day, grateful for his health - and loved his wife. Uncle Gerhard - you made others around you better. You knew a hi-tide raised all ships. I'm sorry, this is not in German for you and your family to read. You will be missed - it was an honor to have you as an Uncle and know you for those short 40 years from 1963 to around 2000. I tell my 5 kids a lot, (their now 20 to 30 yrs old & 3 are married) - my Uncle Gerhard - he was special. God gifted him with a spirit of showing love and kindness to others. I hope we will catch up in heaven. Love Andrew
