Gary, 78, of Waterloo, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2022, four years after being diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a degenerative neurological disorder. His absence will be deeply felt by his wife, Lois of 56 years, children Sheldon and Kelly. He will also be greatly missed by his godson Dale Rieck and Gabriella Frei, who was like a granddaughter to the family. He is survived by his siblings, David (Maria D), Mark (Marilyn) and Roberta (Tom Hinsperger). He will be fondly remembered by Murray (Karen) Hamiliton, Larry (Carol) Zehr and Greta Zehr. Gary was predeceased by his parents Robert and Bette, in-laws Sid and Dorothy Brown.
Gary was also a 50-year member of both the Sheet Metal Local 562 and owner of Hoffman’s Auto Oiling which was located in Waterloo for 22 years, and Elmira for 12 years. He was passionate about classic cars and sometimes referred to as the Dodge Father. He was the founder of the Old Chrysler Corporation Auto Club, which later started what is now, Canada’s largest all Mopar car show known as Moparfest. He had an infectious laugh and a warm heart. He will be missed by many.
Gary’s family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener, 519-749-8467 on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 4, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Gary was a 50-year member of the K-W Optimist Club, which will host a Memorial Celebration of Life this Saturday, May 7, 2022. There will be a brief service at 2:00 p.m., followed by the celebration of life at 3:00 p.m. The KW Optimist Club is located at 2001 Kressler Road, Heidelberg, N2J 3Z4.
