Obituary for Gary William Austin

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Gary on June 8, 2021, at Grand River Hospital at the young age of 57. He is the beloved husband of 34 years to Connie (39 years together) and cherished Dad of Lindsay (Mark) and Crystal (Colin).

Most recently, Gary got to experience the biggest excitement of his life as he became a loving Grandpa to his two granddaughters, Savannah and Joelle. It is almost like his life began again when he welcomed these two little girls into the world.

Gary will be missed by his siblings: Karen (Paul) Schertzberg, Cindie (Mel) Buckle and Kent (Cheryl) Austin. His brother-in-law Todd (Sabine) Kawalec and predeceased by John Kawalec (1989). Will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

Survived by his mother-in-law Carol Kawalec and now reunited with his parents and his father-in-law.

It is no doubt that Gary lived his life to the fullest, and was always looking for a good time. Everyone who knew him knew he wouldn’t be one to miss out on a social gathering and always greeted everyone with his infectious smile. Being the catalyst of getting everyone together, he loved fishing trips, golf trips and just a good old Monday night football, beer in hand with the boys.

Gary loved nothing more than to have his family together on Sunday night while he cooked up new recipes on his smoker. His family will greatly miss Sunday dinners and his next new recipe.

Gary's family will hold a private service at the Henry Walser Funeral Home (507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467 ) in the chapel. Guests are invited to view Gary's service on Sunday, June 13th at 10:30 A.M. on the funeral home's website at https://www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a larger gathering to celebrate Gary's life will be announced at later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
