We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Garry Cyril Paquette (son of Peter and Violet). After many years of fighting numerous illnesses, Garry passed peacefully at St. Mary's hospital, surrounded by family, on Friday, October 27th 2023.
Born in Cornwall, Ontario on July 21st, 1944, Garry lived his 79 years to the fullest. He leaves behind his devoted wife Donna Paquette, beloved children Paul (Heather) Paquette, Julie (Will) Hum, Jeffrey (Jennie) Paquette, cherished grandchildren Amanda, Jade, Matthew, Kobi, Jayden, and Judith, his loving brothers Gerald (Beatrice), Bill (Diana) and Perry (Joanne) along with many nieces and nephews. Garry will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family and countless friends.
Garry met his best friend & love of his life, Donna, when he was 22 years old through his best friend (Bob Barr) who at the time worked with Donna. They have been inseparable ever since, including 54 wonderful years of marriage (3 weeks short of 55 years of marriage). He was always happiest when he was travelling to all the beautiful places around the world with his love, Donna. They both loved travelling and were always busy planning their next big "bucket list" trip.
Garry loved his children and his grandchildren deeply. Family was the most important thing to Garry, from birthday celebrations, to holiday gatherings, Sunday get-togethers, a golf game with his sons and brothers or just playing a game of horseshoes in the backyard. Garry always found a reason to bring his family together. Garry was the heartbeat to the Paquettes, and he will be missed dearly.
Garry was very passionate about always helping people. He would always be the first person to raise his hand or show up with a hammer or just give directions. If you needed advice, you would call Garry and he would stop whatever he is doing to sit down, listen and provide the best advice he possibly could.
His grandkids were everything to him. He was always engaged in their lives in every way from playing teatime, to games in the backyard, a card game or most importantly being there when they needed him most.
Garry will always be fondly remembered for his dance moves especially the odd "Garry Shuffle" on the dance floor with his grandkids. I think it got to the point that the grandkids were starting to do it better than him but with two of his granddaughters being competitive dancers, we're not surprised.
Donna and family are extremely grateful for all the amazing doctors and nurses in both London and Kitchener. A special thank you to Doctor Nickels and his team who worked closely with Garry and Donna over the last few years and went over and above to make them feel at ease. And lastly, the nurses at St. Mary's Hospital for the amazing care, compassion and support that was provided to Garry, Donna and family for his last few days.
The visitation will take place on Monday October 30, 2023 from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 pm at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St, Kitchener, Ontario N2B 2A5. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Parish, on Tuesday October 31, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at 329 Huron St, New Hamburg, Ontario N3A 1K3 followed by a light lunch at 1:30 pm at the Stonecroft Community Center, 156 Stonecroft Way, New Hamburg, Ontario N3A 4R3.
