It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Lanark Heights Long Term Care at the age of 90.
Beloved husband and soulmate of the late Virginia Koebel (2014).
Loving father of the late Brian Koebel (2020) and his wife Cheryl, Diane Koebel, Tom Koebel, the late Marie Koebel (2015), Susan Kienapple and her husband David, and Bill Koebel and his wife Holly.
Cherished grandpa of Erin (Nik), Chris, Leyla (Wafa), Adam, Krista (Matt), Daniel (Ryanne), Alexandra, Joel (Ashley) and Zachary.
Great-grandpa of Myla, Jayden, Deegan and Tervel.
Dear brother of Genevieve McLaughlan and brother-in-law of Mary Mederak.
Predeceased by siblings Margaret, Jerome, Hugo, Cyril, Ruth, Kenneth, Willard, Sr. Carol, Kay and Betty.
Fred was born and raised in St. Clements, and began his working life at the young age of 14 at the family business, Koebel Brick. He married the love of his life, Virginia, on September 15, 1951. Fred worked as a supervisor at Uniroyal until his retirement. Big Fred "Moose" was the Mr. Fix-It of the neighbourhood, taking great pride in helping his friends, family and neighbours.
Fred's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, with a funeral service in the chapel at 3:30 p.m. Reception to follow.
A very special thank you to John Reid for being Fred's friend, confidant and handyman. The family would also like to thank all the staff at Lanark Heights LTC, especially Fimke Van Muyen, Erika, T. and Jen, for their exceptional care and kindness.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
