Taking the time to Listen:

The thing I remember most about Grandma was the way that she listened. She loved to hear stories, every last detail of what I was up to and how I was doing, and in that moment, she made me feel like the most important person. Even on the phone, I could tell that she was smiling while we talked. She was kind and welcoming. She cared and worried deeply about each and every one of us. I remember the way she surrounded herself with beautiful and delicate things. I remember the way that she loved grandpa and saw, in their marriage, how deeply you could love someone. She taught me the importance of family and how you can make someone feel special and loved simply by taking the time to listen and genuinely care what they have to say.
