The Road to Debert

It was the early 80s and we had a convoy of Home Hardware trucks heading down to the warehouse in Debert Nova Scotia. H.H had just purchased some brand new tri-axle trailers and Ted had proudly loaded one with bagged decorative stones on pallets at Woodstock Ont.and brought it back to St. Jacobs where we all joined up and left together. I forget who all was in our convoy but there was about 6 or 7 of us. I think there was Frank Baird,Rob Bentall,Al Wigood,Bill Burnett, myself, and a few others. Ted was excited to have this new trailer and was yakking all the way down about getting his rocks off in Debert. All was going well till we hit the weigh scale this side of Fredericton NB. Ted pulled on the scale and the red light came on. Pull around back driver was the order over the loudspeaker you are overweight . So after we all weighed in we pulled around back and backed a lighter loaded trailer up to his and hand bombed two pallets of his rocks onto it and away we went. Ted thanked us all for our help and I said youre welcome Ted except you owe us big time as those rocks were heavy and we all strained our rocks getting your rocksoff! And we laughed about that for years. Fun times and good memories. Marilyn and I will miss you old buddy. 10-4 and Good-bye
