Condolence: I knew Earl and his Son Jim for many years. I found out today his son Jim also passed away February 7, 2017. I am absolutely stunned reading Earls obit and finding out Jim has also passed away. One loses touch over the years but this Father and Son have never been far out of my mind. I am extremely saddened at this news, I worked with them for many years at Mercedes-Benz and have many fond memories. Earl was always the fatherly type and Jim was like a big brother to me. I will miss both of them very much and will never forget them.

Condolence: Please accept my sincere condolences. Earl came to me faithfully for foot care for years. I always enjoyed his kind friendly demeanour. He would share so many beautiful stories of his family and he knew so many people in Waterloo County. The world was a better place with Earl in it. I pray all the best for his family at this very sad time.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

Condolence: My memories up to the age of 12 - in fact, my entire childhood in Canada - are inextricably linked to Earl, my father, and my uncle Clayt. They were good-humoured, spunky hunting buddies. Photographs of them beaming together (generally with rifles and quarry) are among my most prized personal possessions. Our families were together often. It was always an adventure visiting Sandra and Jim. Doris and my mother were very close.

My father parted too soon. Earl and Clayt and I remembered him together some years ago when we gathered at Earl's townhouse in Kitchener. I was revisiting my old home territory with my wife, Bettina, and our two boys - Anton and Ben - who were then small but are now over 20. Clayt and Jim came over too, on very short notice. I was so happy to see Earl and Clayt still smiling and laughing with the same spirit and wit. We laughed about the squirrels and birds causing mischief around Earl's terrace. It was marvellous to see he had found Gwen. She showered my boys with kindness.

It was like a homecoming.

Condolence: Earl and my father Clayton, having met as young boys, maintained a close life-long friendship. As such, Earl was an uncle to us, if not by blood than certainly by his constant presence in our lives. For me that was almost 60 years. When our father passed away his advice and help was a steadying factor and I'm sure one of the ways he felt he could honour his good friend. It was appreciated by us. Earl loved a good story, had a great sense of humour, enjoyed a hearty laugh, and we will always remember him fondly. I expect he and Dad are together again sharing hunting stories and singing some of those old school hymns. Rest well, Earl. Rob, Ron and Paul Martin

Condolence: Gwen, Sandra, Kelley and families, our deepest condolences at the passing of “Uncle Earl”. “Uncle Earl” was an extremely kind and thoughtful man, with an enormous heart. He always made us feel welcome and every meeting was as if we had just talked yesterday… We will miss him and his heartwarming smile. We wish we could be with you at this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Brenda and Randy Bartlett
