Obituary for Douglas R. Kechnie

Kechnie, Douglas Robert

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of family on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the age of 83.

Beloved husband of Bev Kechnie.

Dear father of Jeff, Ian, and Darryl with his first wife, Donna Kechnie, and grandsons Hunter and Maguire (Jeff).

Doug will be missed and remembered by Bev's children Donald Horvath and Dale Horvath (Stephanie) and his step-grandchildren Dylan, Maxwell and Kaitlin.

Dear brother of the late Ron (Lovada), David (Margaret), Margaret Nowak (Karl), Helen Priddle (Job) and Gordon (Carolyn).

Doug is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Doug lived a full life and enjoyed coaching hockey, singing in the Kechnie Trio, and was a member of the Preston Scout House marching band as a boy/young teen, and later as an Alumni from 2002 until 2015.  Golf was another passion he so enjoyed while constantly "trash talking" members of his foursome!!  After working in retail for many years he found his calling in the insurance business, starting with Mutual Life in 1976.  Spending his time helping others achieve their financial goals while protecting their Incomes was a labour of love.

Doug's family will receive relatives and friends from 3:00 - 5:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467.  Visitation will continue on Thursday, December 28 from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception. Those unable to attend may view Doug's service on Thursday via the following live stream link: https://www.henrywalser.com/live-streaming. Please join the live-stream at 10:15 a.m. for a video tribute followed by the service at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery following the reception.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Hospice Waterloo Region, Grand River Hospital Foundation - Cancer Centre and Food Bank of Waterloo Region would be appreciated by the family (cards may be placed at the funeral home or by calling 519-749-8467).
