Obituary for Douglas John Black

Douglas John Black, born June 25, 1966 in a town called Cooks Ville Ontario, was a beloved son, an amazing brother, reliable dad and a loving partner. He spent his younger days playing hockey and excelling to the highest ranks of the Air Force Cadets. When Doug was not watching or playing his favourite sports, he was making something tasty in the kitchen. He will always be remembered for his amazing culinary skills, especially when it comes to his famous French toast.
His writing was just as eloquent and creative in several ways: his poems critiqued important events occurring in the community or illustrated the beauty of the people and nature which had him featured on TV in his early 20s because of his timely and poignant poem about Oka. Doug was never at a lost for impactful words or cleverly hilarious jokes.
Of all the careers he had, working at Raytheon and the fly-in fishing lodge, were by far his most valued experiences. He enjoyed stenciling and painting commercial aircrafts and guiding American tourists around the lodge, demonstrating his prowess in preparing and cooking fish.
As the God-fearing man that he was, Doug always saw the good in others and himself. He was a compassionate, trustworthy, honest and fun-spirited person who was always ready to lend a helping hand, sometimes putting the needs of others above his own. He took pride in his indigenous heritage and enjoyed celebrating all thing native, his land, his people and himself.
