Obituary for Dieter Rogas

Rogas, Dieter

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Dieter Rogas, beloved husband, father and devoted grandfather who passed away due to a brain tumour at the age of 82 on Saturday, October 31st, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Erika Rogas. “Papa” is sadly missed by his children Esther (Jeff), Heidi (Zoran) and Daniel (Ashley). Proud Opa to Owen Bodenham, Noah, Joshua and Brooklyn Rogas.

Dieter was born on March 15, 1938 in Dittersbach, Germany. He completed Masonry school then escaped East Germany to come to Canada where he met and married Erika Redlich. They built a home in former Bridgeport where they raised their 3 children: Esther, Heidi and Daniel.

Dieter and Erika were avid snowbirds. They spent most of their winters in Florida as well as the southern US and enjoyed numerous cruises escaping the Canadian winters. Dieter had his own masonry business for 30 years and worked tirelessly to support his family. We are so happy that our parents were able to enjoy the benefits of his labours.

Dieter was known for his selflessness, great sense of humour and enjoyment of entertaining guests. He warmly welcomed everyone, always offering sweets to the children and treats to the dogs. He loved to laugh! He was known to tinker and any one who has been to their backyard can attest to the creative and unique structures that Dieter has built over the years. He was kind and generous to a fault. There was no limit as to what he would happily do for others, especially his family and friends.

Dieter had a strong faith. His bible was with him at all times and he always had a scripture to share. His love for God was evident in his generosity and the way that he served others.
John 10:11 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.”

He was very courageous and his concern was for the well being of his family until the very end. He will be greatly missed.

A private service will be held at the Bridgeport Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Freedom Life Church, 20 Shirk Place Kitchener or a charity of your choice will be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
