Obituary for David Gordon Lockett

May 12, 1969 - March 24, 2024
Lockett, David Gordon

David (Dave) Lockett, in his 54th year, passed away at home on March 24, 2024. Dave was predeceased by his father, William (2023) and partner Zella Murray (2019), and survived by his mother, Sharon Vandenberg and step father, Wayne Vandenberg.

Dave is remembered by his sister Annette Scott (David), brothers Bill Lockett (Rhonda), Dan Lockett (Sue), half sister Nancy Obando (Luis) and half brother Kevin Vandenberg. Also remembered by his late brother-in-law Bill Scott (2015) and missed by his nieces and nephews, Lahara, Peyton and Kai, Amanda (Seamus) and Thomas, step nieces Lucy, Layna, Cali, Sally and step-nephews Timothy (Sonja) and Michael (Michelle). Several others were important to him throughout his life including Amy & daughter Hailey, Lisa & daughter Lauren, Roger & Tracy, Scott, and the late Dave G. (2013)

Dave left home as a teenager and travelled with the carnival in the Dominican as well as Ontario, running games of chance. Eventually, he found his way into international moving and packing, and local furniture delivery. He was a talented packer. When he enjoyed a job he took pride in it and worked hard. Most of all, Dave really enjoyed chatting and getting to know the customers.

During the time Dave was married he lived in Mississauga. He enjoyed playing in a slo-pitch league, and was a great outfielder. He enjoyed organising events with this group of players and friends, such as several infamous boat cruises along the Toronto harbour.

Dave returned to Kitchener-Waterloo about 20 years ago. He enjoyed cheering for the Leafs, watching the Broncos, and occasionally car racing. He appreciated a nice car like his Monte Carlo, and truly loved his music. Sometimes family dynamics were difficult to navigate for Dave, though he never left somewhere without giving out hugs.

Dave struggled with several medical conditions that, in later years, really slowed him down and caused his world to become much smaller. He was greatly affected by the loss of his dad less than a year ago. His charm, his laugh, and his sense of humour will be missed by those who knew him during different chapters of his life.
