Downey, David Joseph:
Passed away on March 25, 2021 at home at the age of 63 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Cherished Dad to Jon (Tiffany), Allan (Aimee),Sam, Shane (Ashley). Loving Grandpa to Jordan, Lilly, Talon, Angelene, Lucy, Charlie and Kayden.
Beloved son of Marjory and the late John Downey (2017).
Sadly missed by his siblings: Tom, Catherine (Geoff Moran), Carol (David Zmija), Richard (the late Kelly Kernaghan 2020), Rosalynn (Jim Hahn), Greg (Debra Eamon), Philip (Denise), Chris (Paula) and Jennifer (Adam Sugarman).
Missed by his partner Janet Thompson.
A skilled millwright, Dave enjoyed working with his hands and he would often be found in his garage working on new projects. Recent cherished highlights included building a shop with his son Jon and finishing a race car trailer with Bobs (Allan).
In the summer, you'd find Dave cheering on Bobs at the local dirt track and working as his crew chief. Summertime BBQs with his grandchildren brought him an immense amount of joy and he always looked forward to family gatherings. In the wintertime he would be up north as often as he could riding on the trails with his snowmobile. He especially enjoyed going out for rides with his friends and grandchildren.
A selfless father and friend, Dave will be remembered for his big heart, sarcastic humour, and kindness to all those he met.
David's family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00pm-8:00pm on Friday April 2nd, 2021 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Guests must RSVP to attend David's visitation through the funeral home's website or by calling the funeral home directly.
