Obituary for David Patrick Decker

Decker, David
Passed away surrounded by love on Wednesday, February 26 at the age of 73.

Beloved husband of Susan (see Kumpf) of 49 years. Loving father of Jamie Decker and Jodi Decker (late Glenn Williams), and adoring papa of Michael.

Dear brother of Kathy Pehlke (Eric) and brother-in-law of Sonny Kumpf (Linda), Rick Kumpf (Beth) and Kathy Jones (Bruce). David will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his parents Glenn (2008), Rose (2007) and brother Bob (1963)

For decades, you could find David at Metro Karges on Charles Street in Kitchener, his home away from home, a family business that he was deeply committed to and proud of.
David believed “we take from our community, therefore we should always give back”. David was a long-standing member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Kitchener-Westmount, a recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship award and recipient of the Rotary member of the year in 1999. He was also an honorary member of Best Friends of Big Brothers and Big Sisters. In his earlier years he was an active member of the Royal Canadian Highland Fusiliers
As an avid lover of the outdoors, some of the fondest memories of David are from the Snow Shoe Hunt Camp, the annual fishing trip to MacGregor Bay or summers spent with family and friends in Bayfield.
We remember David as a kind and loving soul, a man that had many passions, a man devoted to his family and respected by his community. His bellowing voice, jovial nature and overall zest for life will never be forgotten.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their kindness, compassion and dignity shown to David in his final days. A special thank you to Emily Parsons and Dr. Brian Bell for their great care and thoughtfulness.

David's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, March 6, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener, 519-749-8467.

David's life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations to ALS Society of Ontario or St. Mary's Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the Funeral Home)
