To the family and friends of Darron Phann: I am still coming to terms with Darron's passing, and I know that many of his classmates at university are as well. It will take some time to heal and move forward with the same upbeat and positive attitude that Darron carried. Darron was such an important part of the nanotechnology program for many people, and he was one of my closest friends at university. We were partners for every lab that we had together, and worked together on countless assignments and projects. I saw and talked to Darron nearly every day, and we went out every Tuesday night this term to play Commander at our local game store. Darron loved playing Magic, and we talked frequently about it - he was always bouncing deck ideas off of me and testing out his new/creative builds with me. While he was on his international co-op, he told me about how he missed home and was excited to come back so he could finally play with our friend group. He told me about how he liked to play guitar and practice his one favourite riff over and over again, and I remember having him over and letting him try out my guitars. Darron helped me and many others during his time at university and was a large component in the success of many of his classmates. Though it was only a few years ago, I do not remember exactly how Darron and I became friends, just that we always seemed to be since starting university. Darron was the kind of friend I was hoping to have for a lifetime. I am honored to have known Darron for the past few years, and his presence in our lives will be sorely missed. To Darron's family: I understand that words cannot express how you are feeling and I would like to extend my deepest condolences. During this difficult time, please do not hesitate to reach out and continue to reach out to myself or any of Darron's classmates. He impacted our lives in a profound way, and we have many stories and fond memories to share. I can be reached at ksnikola@edu.uwaterloo.ca or at (519) 277 1618.
