Obituary for Czeslaw (Chester) Chmurzynski

Chmurzynski, Reverend Father Chester, CR

The Congregation of the Resurrection announces the passing of Father Chester Chmurzynski, CR on April 26, 2021, of Resurrection Manor Waterloo, Ontario. He was 89 years old, in his 71st year of religious life and 64th year of ordained priesthood. Father Chmurzynski is predeceased by his parents Julian and Jozefa (Choluj) Chmurzynski, his brothers Wladyslaw, Piotr, and Stanislaw and sisters Maria, Zofia, Jozefa, Julia, Jadwiga and Janina. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his nieces Michalina Adamczyk and great niece Martyna Lee Tibbo and many friends. Father Chmurzynski professed his religious vows in the Congregation on August 15, 1950 in Krakow, Poland and was ordained to the ministerial priesthood on May 18, 1957. The first years of his priesthood were spent teaching religion and physics, and re-opening the Minor Seminary in Poznan, Poland. He also served as Associate Pastor and catechist in Drawsko Pom and Rynek Wildecki, Poland. In 1972, Fr. Chmurzynski came to Canada and served as Associate Pastor of St. Stanislaus Parish, Hamilton, Sacred Heart Parish, Kitchener and as Pastor of St. Joseph’s Parish, Brantford. In 1988 he transferred from the CR Polish Province and became a member of the Ontario-Kentucky Province. Fr. Chester was appointed Administrator of St. Anthony’s Mission, Oakville and when it became a parish in 1997, Fr. Chester became its first pastor. He was member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Order and was active with the Conference of Polish Priests in Eastern Canada. Fr. Chester was one of the founders of Family of Radio Maria Canada in 2000 which promoted the principles and teachings of the Catholic Church. In 2014, Fr. Chester retired to St. Joseph Parish, Brantford and then moved to Resurrection Manor, Waterloo in 2018. Fr. Chmurzynski served as House Superior for his religious house in Krakow and was House Superior for St. Stanislaus and later St. Peter’s religious house in Canada. He led several pilgrimages over the years. A man of deep faith, hope and love Father Chester’s life of faithful service touched the lives of his students, brother religious, parishioners, and family during his life of dedicated ministry.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date due to covid-19 restrictions. Internment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington, ON. Donations in Fr.
