Obituary for Christine Marie MacDonald

MacDonald (nee Feiler), Christine Marie (1948-2020)

It is with the saddest of hearts that the family of Christine MacDonald announce her passing after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She fought for many years to have as much time with her family and friends as she could, and made every day count with love, laughter and thankfulness for time together.
Born in Germany, she immigrated to Canada in 1953 with her family and took to all things artistic-from multiple instruments, incredible arts and crafts, to lyric writing and performing, and eventually going on to become Ms. Kitchener-Waterloo in 1969 and represent the area at the Ms. Canada pageant. Her beauty was remarkable both inside and out, and that same year she married the love of her life, John MacDonald. They met at Laurier in the Torque Room, and Chris went on to graduate from Laurier and Stratford’s Teacher College.

Her elementary teaching career spanned 33 years with the local board at Margaret Ave, Smithson, Franklin and Breslau schools. She loved her students and took pleasure in teaching them more than just curriculum. She was awarded the WT Townsend Award for Excellence, which was a testament to the efforts she made in and out of the classroom for all. Among her many ways she gave back, she volunteered her time at the Grand River Hospital in the Snuggles and Cuddles program, the Emergency room and on the 5th floor, receiving a 15 year volunteer badge.

She loved adventures, whether it be kayaking and then camping locally, to numerous trips out of the country, cruising, seeking new experiences or adding to her amazing culinary skills. No one was ever left hungry or wanting. She cherished her ability to experience all the amazing things and never took them forgranted.
Christine will be dearly missed and forever have an impact by creating and fostering wonderful relationships with her husband of 52 years, John, her three children and their spouses, Kelly (Trevor), Colin (Dani), and Craig (Connie), and with her 5 grandchildren, Nicholas, Jesse, Alex, Malin and Marley. She will also be forever in the hearts of her brothers Mike Feiler (Rosemary), Charlie Feiler (Linda), her nieces and nephews, cousins Elsbeth(Jacques), Tibby(Donni), and Aunts Hedwig and Barbra, as well as many other relatives and great friends, including Andree Desjardins and Liz Jones-Twomey and the gals. She is predeceased by her parents Theresa and Michael Feiler, cousin Hans and Uncle Anton Lipp, and family friend Connie Sachan.
Christine wants to thank all that made the time to drop by, call, send a note or bring food for her and her family. She and her family also thanks the staff at Grand River Hospital for the wonderful care she received, including Dr. Califreiatti, Dr. Jadka, Dr. Kuk, their assistants, the volunteers and attendants, as well as Charlie Bauman from Paramed, PSWs from Bloom and the rest of the palliative care team that supported her at home.
