Buder, Carl Gordon
Born April 24, 1947 in Killaloe, Ontario
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carl Gordon Buder.
Carl passed away peacefully on August 26th, in the comfort of his home, with his family holding his hands after a strong, valiant struggle with cancer. Leaving behind the love of his life and best friend, his wife June (Palubeski) of 57 years. Cherished father of Greg (Joanne), Vicki (Armenio), Shelly, and Papa to Matthew, Troy, John, Katrina, Tyler, and Koby. His fur-baby Rusty Herman and best friend Tucker will miss Papa's oatmeal cookies.
Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Alma (Popp), brothers Donald Popp, Kenneth and sister Dorian, and granddaughter Trinity. Lovingly remembered by his brother William and sister Deborah.
A true pillar of the community, Carl led a life of selfless service to his community. Leaving his hometown of Killaloe, ON, he proudly served with the Waterloo Regional Police Service, retiring after 30 years. Planting roots in New Hamburg, Carl volunteered in leadership roles in minor baseball and hockey. A long-time volunteer with KW Oktoberfest, he held membership and leadership roles with the Lions Club, Moose Lodge, and the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 50, to name a few. With music being a passion, Carl could be found hosting karaoke Tuesdays at the Legion. His pride and joy, however, was being able to dust off the big bright red suit and shout "Ho Ho Ho" and bring smiles to children's faces during the Christmas Season in parades, corporate parties, and family homes. Never charging for his service, donations received supported the Children's Wish Foundation and fuel for the reindeer and elves. Gathering energy in his final days, Carl brought joy just one last time to families at Branch 50 with Christmas in July. Carl was passionate about giving back and positively impacting the world. He worked tirelessly to protect and serve, always putting the needs of others before his own, including his health.
We were blessed and thankful for the care, compassion and patience provided by the CCAC, St. Elizabeth Health Care, family, friends, and neighbours.
Carl's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 - 4:00 PM and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener (519-749-8467) on Thursday, August 31, 2023. A musical celebration honouring Carl will take place at 7:30 PM on Thursday evening.
In lieu of flowers, donations to charities and organizations that were close to Carl's heart may be given with appreciation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 50, or the Lions Foundation of Canada - Kitchener Oktoberfest (cards available at the funeral home).
Carl received a Police Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada and for his exemplary service to Lionism, the Melvin Jones Fellowship and, most recently, the Judge Brian Stevenson Fellowship. Carl's family asks that you consider his legacy of service and dedication to others and pay it forward. Volunteer your time, serve on a committee, with an organization, or service club and inspire future generations to follow in his footsteps and make a positive difference in the world.
