The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Carey Bissonnette can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Full of surprises

I played hockey with Carey for many years. There is a stupid macho code where you don't really talk about yourself in the locker room, so I only was able to piece together who Carey really was when we had a beverage afterward in the Boston Pizza in Erbsville. I had some great conversations with Carey about education, science, hockey, life and chicken wings. Sometimes in that order. Carey found it interesting that I didn't like chicken wings and we discussed the various reasons why I didn't think eating them was a good idea for me. One of my claims to fame is that Carey decided to curb his chicken wing eating too. I had actually created a compelling argument to convince someone as smart as him. I was so proud of myself. Later when Jeremy told us he was sick and that it was bad, I bought an adult colouring book full of swear words that I thought may capture the way he was feeling about things. I thought it may give him some relief to colour while waiting or recovering from treatment. A few of us who shared drinks at BP signed it for him. Another guy that played hockey with him sent this in an email to a bunch of us that I thought was fitting: "You would want your son to be like Carey." I couldn't agree more. I will miss my defence partner. Will
