Bissonnette, Carey

Surrounded by family, Carey passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at the age of 53 in his home in Waterloo after a heroic battle with cancer. Carey was a proud husband of Kimberley, and an amazing father of three cherished children, Victoria (Blair), Nick and Justine; a loving son of Marion and Eugene Bissonnette and son-in-law to Doreen and Pat Ellert; a beloved brother of Lyle and April Dupuis-Bissonnette, Gisele and Jeff Elgie, Deb Ellert and Tracey and Jeremy Logel; and a darling uncle to Lexi, Cameron, Sebastian, Ryan, Rebecca, Randy, Regan, Ava, Emma and Braydon.

Carey was born in Barry's Bay, and received an Undergraduate Degree in Honours Chemistry from the University of Waterloo and a Doctoral Degree from Cambridge University in England. He began his career as a chemistry professor at the University of Waterloo in 1992, where he was involved in numerous endeavours, including the role as chemistry advisor, and publishing two chemistry textbooks. His love for science and education was beyond apparent, even in his last moments. He made a tremendous impact on thousands of individuals throughout his career and was extremely passionate about what he did, with a goal to encourage students to do what they love and succeed.

Lover of traveling, all things spicy, hockey, golf, fishing and his family and friends, Carey spent much of his time diligently supporting his loved ones. Though he was a man of few words, Carey touched the lives of so many with his patience, passion, insightfulness and infectious humour. He was incredibly selfless and truly wanted the best for people. Carey radiated strength and courageousness through his life and was a true inspiration. He will be deeply missed but remembered forever.
