Obituary for Bruce G. McNaughton

McNaughton, Bruce:

The world lost a wonderful man this past Monday, February 27, 2023. Bruce Grant McNaughton,76, passed away after a valiant fight at St. Mary's Hospital. He was a man who knew how to laugh, how to look on the bright side of life, and how not to take life too seriously.

Bruce leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Karen (nee MacPhail) with whom he recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They met at Laurier's Shinerama and have been inseparable ever since. Many who saw them together commented on what a perfect pair they made, and how special their relationship truly was.

Bruce was a very active and loving father to his two children, daughter Bonnie (Jorge), and son Daniel. He was supportive of their dreams and helped them through hard times. He was also always ready for a dance party in the living room, or train watching with his son Dan. This fun-loving spirit extended to all youngsters, as nephews, nieces, and the children of family friends often asked if, "Bruce could come out to play". He was thrilled to recently meet his three granddaughters Marian, Giselle, and Ivette Meza, whom he adored at first sight. Bruce also leaves behind his cherished Bouvier Holly, who never left his side. Surely he has been greeted by those who went before, Wheelie, Roxy, Gypsy, and Belle.

Bruce leaves behind two siblings whom he loved dearly, brother Barry McNaughton (Margo), and sister Donna McNaughton-Berry (Brian). You knew when this trio was together due to the loud raucous laughter and good times being had. They had a joyful childhood growing up together filled with many happy memories.

Bruce worked for 32 years at the Region of Waterloo as a Land Purchasing Officer. He was an active member of the Optimist Club and regularly volunteered his time for the betterment of the community. He was also a long-time player on the softball team, "Benny and the Jets" with whom he shared many fun times.

Bruce made many dear friends over the years. He was never too busy to help them, never too busy to take the time. He knew how to appreciate the small things in life: a deep breath of fresh crisp air, the beauty of nature and all its creatures, a dram of good scotch, and a turn around the dance floor to a good song. Until we meet again.

Due to his love of animals, expressions of sympathy can be made as donations in Bruce's name to the Kitchener - Waterloo Humane Society.

Private cremation has taken place.

Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home 519-749-8467.
