Obituary for Brian David Hicks

Hicks, Brian:

Passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital on April 19, 2022 at the age of 69.

Beloved husband of 51 years to Pat Hicks (nee Finch).

Loving father of Paul Hicks and David (Nikki) Hicks.

Papa to Tyler Hicks, Christopher, Samantha, Matthew and Tiffany.

Brother of Patty Hicks, John (Wendy) Hicks and Steven Hicks. brother-in-Law of Jackie.

Brian will be fondly remembered by the many cousins, nieces and nephews including Candice, Michael and Jason.

Predeceased by his father, John Hicks and mother Minnie Hicks (Pybus) of Cambridge, Ontario.
Father and mother-in-law, Bill and Rita Finch and his brother-in-law Michael Finch.

Brian was a proud member of UA Local 527 for 50 years. He worked as the Fabrication Supervisor and steamfitter at Sutherland-Schultz for many years and then at MWS where he also managed the fabrication shop and served as QA Manager before retiring.

In his spare time he took on the role of Scouter as his children moved through the sections from Beavers to Venturers as well as doing training of section leaders. Sharing his love of camping with the youth made his day. Brian was a former district commissioner for South Waterloo then took on the role of District President for scouting in the Cambridge area.

He was an avid participant in the Preston Model Train Society that started in Preston (Cambridge) and is now located at Trinity Care Village. He thoroughly enjoyed the Doubleheaders Tour day in March every year as he could show off his Thomas themed trains to everyone. During a trip to Las Vegas he even learned how to run the steam train much to his delight.

The family wishes to thank neighbors Helen and Ted and Erma and Gwen for their help in looking after Brian as well as Larry and Luba. Many thanks for the nurses, doctors and staff who helped to look after him at Cambridge Memorial Hospital as well as the many who worked on him tirelessly in the ICU that night.

The family will celebrate his life privately. Cremation has taken place.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Diabetes Canada, Canadian Cancer Society, Cambridge Memorial Hospital Foundation- Oncology Department would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
