Obituary for Bob Reitzel

Reitzel, Robert Joseph "Bob":
May 19, 1953 - May 5, 2023


Passed away peacefully with his family by his side following a courageous battle of cancer. Survived by his loving wife Helen Reitzel (nee Zettler). His daughters Heidi Reitzel (Joel McNutt) and Gretchen Reitzel (Dave Halk). His loving grandchildren Perrin, Gabriel, and Winter. Predeceased by his infant son Jesse. Also survived by his ever-loving and cherished mother Marjorie Reitzel, sisters Beverley (David George), Edna (William Radtke), and Dawn (Wayne Schnarr), brothers Tom (Peggy) and Bill (Lisa). Predeceased by his father Ludger "Jim" and brothers Eugene and Richard. Also survived by brother-in-law Bill Zettler (Florence) and their loving family and brother-in-law John Zettler.

He will be greatly missed by his loving nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews Bob and his entire family are forever grateful to his best friend Ken Hodgins (Heather); and to his brother Bill Reitzel (Lisa) who together cared for his every need through such a difficult time. Grateful as well to his friend and entrusted business associate, John Brewer for his help and guidance.

Bob, encouraged by his dad became a painter and subsequently a contractor, and an entrepreneur creating several companies; including painting, sandblasting, insulation, and asbestos removal. His brother Bill had become his partner and Reitzel Bros. Holdings was the largest contractor province-wide for UFFI removal. The brothers' were always willing to support their community as well as providing the meeting location for Alcoholic Anonymous. Bob retired from Reitzel Bros. Holdings. Not only was he a good sport, he was a great athlete. He enjoyed baseball, squash (member KW Racquet Club) golf, Pickleball, and tennis. He wintered in Florida when he retired and continued to play golf and pickleball there.

As we each mourn the loss of Bob, we remember the wonderful days and moments that we were able to share with him whether, for a short time or a long time, you saw how special of a person he was and how positively he impacted so many lives. He instilled self-confidence and self-worth in those he knew and thought of everyone as family, from his many friends to employees, each held a special place in his heart.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. (vigil prayers at 6:30 pm) on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Henry Walser, Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. To properly celebrate and honor such a remarkable person and life, one that we are all fortunate enough to be part of please join us for the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 56 Duke St. West, Kitchener, N2H 3W7. Fellowship to immediately follow at the Knights of Columbus Conference Centre, 145 Dearborn Place, Waterloo, N2J 4N5.
