Obituary for Austin Mitchell Layte

Layte, Austin Mitchell

It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our dear son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend Austin Mitchell Layte who died June 26, 2020 at the age of 18. Austin was an amazing young man who lived and struggled with many challenges with tenacity. He was a talented artist and metal worker; he loved music and fishing. At the time of his passing he was in love (Alexa) and hopeful for a bright future. Those who knew him were touched immediately by his charming nature, sense of humour and smile. He leaves behind his grieving mum and stepdad, Kathy Moreland (Paul Wilkie), his dad, Brian Layte, sister, Alexis, birth-mum Lynn Piquette (Shawn Markle), grandma, Mae Layte, Deesel, his beloved chocolate lab, his dear friends, Clayton, John, Dustin, Jadyn, Margo, Bob Savoie, Dan, and Ashton and many other family members and friends. We hope he is now in the arms of his grandparents, Pauline and Ed Moreland and Calvin Layte, in heaven.

We would like to thank all those who have supported Austin and our family through the years and hope that Austin's legacy will be used to continue the fight for services for those with the issues he battled with. We are also so grateful to the first responders who worked so hard to save him and the ED and ICU staff of St. Mary's General Hospital for their care and compassion.

Austin was a young man full of promise who was taken too soon. A funeral service to honour his memory will be held at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467, Monday, July 6 @ 4pm by invitation only. Invited guests are required to wear a face mask while in the building. Austin's service will be available via live stream at henrywalser.com/live-streaming for those not attending the service in-person.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Austin's name to CanFASD or Lab Rescue (cards available at the funeral home).
