Obituary for Asok Kumar Ghoshdastidar

Ghoshdastidar, Asok Kumar:

Asok passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto at the age of 76.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Mita (née Roy), with whom he has most certainly reunited to enjoy their favourite meal together once again - cooked by Mita, of course.

Asok was the loving father of daughter Anjana (Bryce) and son John (Lindsey) and a very proud Dadu to his three grandchildren, Nayan, Kiaan and Arden, whom he adored. Their laughter, presence and cuddles brought him immeasurable joy, and he cherished every moment with them.

He will be greatly missed by his siblings Ashim (Molly), Manjusree (Swapan) and Ashish (Bithi), along with many nephews, nieces and a host of relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Paresh Nath and Ila Rani Ghoshdastidar and sisters Uma and Moni, who both died in childhood.

Born in Ranchi, India in 1947, Asok arrived in Canada in the early seventies, ready to build a new life in a new country. His innate talent for meeting people and building connections served him well, in both his career as a realtor and in his personal life, where he maintained many friendships for several decades.

Asok could often be found humming along to his favourite Bengali music, watching old westerns or researching his family history. He was always excited to talk (rant?) to his friends about the latest Toronto Blue Jays game and he enjoyed the beauty he found in nature, whether in his travels or at the local fishing pond. He will be remembered for his humour, generosity, outgoing nature and ability to be a friend to all - dogs included.

Asok's family will receive relatives and friends from 5:00PM - 8:00PM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Visitation will continue on March 23, 2024 from 9:30AM - 10:15AM with a Memorial Service in the chapel to begin at 10:30AM. Reception to follow. A private cremation will be taking place in advance of the visitations and memorial service.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
