Obituary for Arthur Elton Forler

Arthur "Red" Forler
Arthur Elton Forler passed away peacefully late in the evening on Monday, June 13th, just 17 days shy of his 95th birthday.
Born June 30, 1927 in New Hamburg, Art was the oldest child of the late Austin Peter and Dorothy (nee Schlegel). He moved to Kitchener at a young age with his parents, and lived there the rest of his life. As a teen, Art joined the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, and then the Scots Fusiliers of Canada when he turned 18. He was a proud member of the Fusiliers until being discharged in 1960. After his discharge, Art became a life long member of The Royal Canadian Legion Fred Gies Branch 50 in Kitchener.
Art’s passion in life was sports, in particular baseball and hockey. From playing goalie for the Savage Shoe hockey team in the 1950’s and 60’s, to never missing a Jays game on television, Art devoted much of his life to sport. He was a staunch supporter of the Kitchener Rangers, and caught many games at the Aud. Perhaps his proudest achievement was his tenure as assistant trainer with the Kitchener Panthers, which spanned several decades until his retirement in 2007 at the age of 80.
Art will be remembered by his sister Bette Fowler, brother Brian Forler, sister-in-law Wendy Forler, nieces and nephews Jeff (Daphne), Mike (Carolyn), Peter (Ramona), Nancy (Mike), Susie (Andy), Greg (Pam), Jessica, Meghan, Erin (John), Tara (Brandon), and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his parents, brother Dick Forler, sister-in-law Lily Forler and brother-in-law Bill Fowler.
The family wishes to thank the staff at PeopleCare AR Goudie Long Term Care for the exceptional patience and care afforded to Art in his last year.
Cremation has taken place and the family will be celebrating Art’s life at a private gathering.
