Fischer, Anne Margaret,
With peace and joy, Anne Margaret Fischer, née Baehr, passed from this life to the next on May 27, 2019 at Innisfree House in Kitchener, Ontario. She was 97 years old. Predeceased in 2005 by her husband, John, she is survived by her children: Alexandra (Sandy) Milne (David); Joan Fischer (Guy Whitfield); Carl Fischer (Diane Hancock); Eileen Fischer (Michael Milosevic); and Janice Fischer (Keith MacKenzie). Her grandchildren, Margaret (Stephen), John (Cindy), Andrew (Andrea), Kate, Megan (Adam), Dana (Matt), Alex, Max, Gaelan, Theo, Elizabeth, Avery, and Hollis and her great-grandchildren, Edward, Mia, Ruth, Aiden and Adelaide, are going to miss their Baba.
Anne was born in Manitoba, the 5th of 8 children, and grew up in Saskatchewan where she graduated from Normal School in 1940. She taught in one-room school houses in Saskatchewan and then in British Columbia where she met John. They were married there in 1949 and moved back to Ontario, where John had been born, first to Teeswater and then to a 150-acre farm in Culross Township. When Janice was a pre-schooler, Anne returned to teaching. She worked both as a classroom instructor and as a remedial educator at the Sacred Heart School in Teeswater for nearly two decades, retiring in the early 80’s. John and Anne moved off the farm back to Teeswater in 1984 and then to Trinity Village in Kitchener in 2003. Throughout her adult life, Anne was a committed member of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada and an ardent proponent of social justice.
Anne’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St., Kitchener 519-749-8467. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Prayers will be offered in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019 followed by a procession to St. Aloysius RC Church (11 Traynor Ave., Kitchener, N2C 1W1) for funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Con O’Mahony will preside, assisted by Deacon Raphael Ma, C.R. All who attend are welcome to a time of conversation and refreshments in the Parish Hall immediately following the service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Innisfree House would be appreciated by the family. Cards are available at the funeral home.
