Obituary for Andrew "Andy" Smith

Obituary for Andrew Charles Smith, P.ENG

With great sadness we announce the passing of Andrew Charles Smith of Kitchener, Ontario on June 16th, 2022 after a hard-fought battle with Cancer.

He is survived by Mary Margaret Smith, and two wonderful children, Mary-Jo Smith and Malcolm Smith; brothers Ivan Smith (Pauline Wand) and Dan Smith; sister Janet Sanderson (Steve Sanderson); nieces, Pamela Bennet (Kyle Bennett), Rebecca Sanderson and Olivia Sanderson; and great nephew and niece Jameson and Hannah Bennett. Predeceased by his father, Ross Macdonald Smith (2012) and survived by his mother, Dorothy Hannah Smith and his most favorite aunt Gwendolyn McBurney.

Andy loved the Canadian wilderness taking many camping, canoeing, ATV and snowshoeing trips to provincial parks throughout Ontario and a memorable trek down the Yukon River.

Andy was a retired professional engineer (P.ENG) and wore his iron ring with pride. He developed close ties to many of his clients who were more friends than customers throughout his career in process controls. He graduated from The University of Western Ontario in 1981 with an Electrical Engineering degree and enjoyed a 33-year career with Lakeside Process Controls and Emerson Electric (Fisher Controls). He ended his working career with his good friend Brent Startek and crew at Startek Building Solutions with some post-retirement, part-time work and full-time fun.
