Obituary for Alojz Prilesnik

Prilesnik, Alojz "Lou";

It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Alojz (Lou) Prilesnik (1943-2021) on June 9th. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Marija (Fabjan) of 53 years and his sons Robert (Teresa) of Waterloo, Tony (Kathryn) and his granddaughters Abbey and Gillian, of Ariss. He will be fondly remembered by his siblings Kristina (Joseph) and Jože (Angela) both from Kitchener and Antonija Vintar of Slovenia. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, other family and friends from Slovenia, the United States and England.

Alojz was born in Gornje Retje, Velike Lašče, Slovenia to Alojz and Antonja Prilesnik. Since he was born during World War II growing up was challenging. After finishing primary school, he enrolled in a technical school and became a millwright. His road took him from Slovenia to Germany and after 5 years he immigrated with his wife to Canada. This was the beginning of his new life full of challenges and many adventures. Together they built a successful life and a beautiful home. He worked for many years at ThyssenKrupp Budd in Kitchener before retiring. Alojz was a proud Slovenian who never forgot his roots, his heritage and always kept in touch with his homeland visiting every chance he could. He was an active member of the Slovenian community. A life long member of the Slovenian cultural and social Sava Club. He volunteered countless hours working to create, improve and maintain the club’s structure and heritage. His efforts were recognized by club members and the Slovenian government. One of his great joys was traveling and experience new places. He enjoyed music and dancing, especially playing the accordion. He was a skilled craftsman and animal lover. Alojz was always willing to help with any task. He was a devoted family man; a great father and he adored his two granddaughters. He lived to work and was passionate about keeping busy all the time. At a drop of a hat, he helped his sons with many projects including renovations and home repairs.

The family would like to thank the help of Kincardine OPP officers Matt Price and Bobby MacDonald, Air Ornge staff Matt and Keith who took him to the CCT Centre, Dr. Thompson in Kincardine, Dr. Alister (Neuro surgery team), Dr. Caddell (Critical Care ICU), special nurses Olivia and Kathe and the rest of the staff at the Critical Care Trauma Center at Victoria Hospital London.

"Dragi Lojze, pocivaj v miru, naj ti bo lahka Slovenska zemlja."
