In loving memory of Alice Chiswell:
On the morning of Thursday, November 16th, surrounded by her daughter and best friend, Alice, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital at the age of 69. She spent her final night with her daughter Danielle by her side, before Alice returned to Denise and Barry, who needed her more.
Alice was the darling wife of the late Barry Chiswell (1998). Although they didn't have much time together, they created a lifetime of experiences, love and shared memories. She was the irreplaceable mother to Danielle Fox (Kevin), and the late Denise Chiswell. She always prioritized her children and led by example, teaching them the values of generosity, care, and compassion. Alice was also a loving stepmother to Douglas Chiswell (Shawn) and David Chiswell. She was the proud Oma to Theo and Alex. She made a point of asking about each of her boys daily, never wanting to miss a story, no matter how small. She will be deeply missed by both her grandsons, who will learn about her kindness through shared stories and precious pictures.
Alice was the beautiful second daughter of Alwine and Heinrich Zielke. Alice truly loved, respected and adored her parents whom she always spoke of with only kind words. She was a beloved sister to Linda (nee Zielke) Gilchrist (Fred). She will be deeply missed by her niece, Caroline Anderson, Kyle, and their son Beau. Alice had a close bond with her aunts, uncles, cousins, and their children. Barbara Marchand, Alice's best friend of over 60 years, will hold her dear forever. Alice's love and personality extended well beyond family. Donna and Frank Bertucca, who served as proud godparents to her children, will miss her dearly as well.
Alice was a formative member of the exclusive "Poker Pigs", a group of close friends including Lillian, Joanne, Elaine, Linda, Kim, and the late Laurie. The "Poker Pigs" supported each other and stood by one another through all of life's highs and lows.
Anyone fortunate to have met Alice would attest to her unparalleled wit, humour, and generosity. She was the consummate hostess who would always invite people into her home to share a drink, a beautifully prepared meal, and, most importantly, a good story and joke. Her talents extended beyond cooking to include knitting, card playing, and storytelling. Alice exuded strength, kindness, and resiliency in facing some of life's hardest trials. She will forever serve as a role model to so many. Danielle will personally look to her mom's strength, humility and grace to overcome the overwhelming grief of her mom not being in her life.
