Obituary for Alfred Anton Novak

On June 27th, 2020 at Grand River Hospital Alf passed away after a brief, catastrophic illness leaving his friends and family heartbroken.

Alf was born on August 11, 1950 in Austria and came to Canada in 1957 with his Mother, Maria and sister, Helene. He grew up and lived out all of his days in Kitchener.

Sandy and Alf were married at St. Mary's church on December 27, 1975 in a beautifully Christmas themed decor of poinsettias. Shortly after the wedding bells rang they purchased a cute house on Harcourt Crescent, which they have lived in for the last 44 years. In 1977 they were blessed with daughter Katherine, and then in 1979 the birth of their son Aaron completed their family. Many changes and updates took place in their home over the years, as Alf's talents as a carpenter and building renovator with Canadian Home and Renovation Team were well utilized. Aside from the multiple kitchen updates, basement renovations and regular flooring and painting upgrades, he also added a deck on the back of the house and built a shed and a workshop that were designed as mini replicas of the house.
Alf understood that a happy wife meant a happy life, and updating their family home regularly was his way of keeping a very happy wife.

Alf worked with Canadian Home and Renovation Team for over 30 years and retired in 2018. He was a man of routine and constants. He was mostly a homebody, but enjoyed attending his 'Friday Night Greek Social Club' every week. Alf was a man of few words, but had no qualms about sharing his very strong opinions. He was passionate about what he believed and enjoyed a good debate. But overall, nothing really phased him. He was a very carefree, laid-back and easy-going guy. The phrase most often heard by Alf was 'Reee-lax' (heard most often by his wife).

Alf cared very deeply for his friends and family. He was extremely generous and always happy to help when called upon. His biggest joy in life was being a Grandpa to Aaron and Colleen's boys, Declan (3 yrs old) and Finn (1 yr old). Whether it was reading a book, playing with trucks or watching 2 straight hours of Peppa Pig, he was in.

There will never be another man like Alf. He will be greatly missed and always loved.
He was taken away too soon, but leaves behind many happy memories which we will have with us forever.
