Obituary for Cathy Kennedy

Kennedy, Catherine Margaret:

Surrounded by the love of her family, Catherine "Cathy" Margaret Kennedy (nee Bernier/Fries), passed peacefully at St. Mary’s hospital on June 8, 2021, at the age of 70.

Left to mourn is her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Dale, her daughters and sons-in-law Dawn and Mike Zuber, Deb and Phil Panchaud, and her dearest grandchildren, Alanna and Justin Zuber, Samantha and Jessie Panchaud. She will be missed by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Carol and Jim Diebolt, a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and half-sister Pamela Bernier-Turner. Greeting her in heaven with open arms are her adoring mom and best girlfriend, Phyllis (nee Fries), beloved stepdad Arlen Geiger, and her father, Delbert Bernier.

Cathy was born in Kitchener in December 1950 weighing less then 2 lbs at birth. Always a fighter, she endured many years of discomfort, treatments, surgeries and living with Alzheimer Disease with courage and is now at peace with God.

After graduating from Eastwood Collegiate, Cathy married her best friend and love of her life, Dale and had two amazing daughters. Above all, Cathy loved her family and cherished the time they spent all together. In the last 25 years she happily cared for and was ultra proud of her 4 grandkids. She enjoyed attending all of their events and special occasions.

Cathy worked for 33 years at Zehrs Markets before retiring at 50. She was an avid reader, TV watcher, and loved playing games; solo, backgammon, and cribbage were among her favourites. While she wasn’t a fan of travelling, she appeased Dale and travelled with him to many destinations including a European Cruise, Hawaii, St. Thomas, England, and Barbados, just to name a few, and she always returned having had a great time and making lasting memories.

A special thank you to the 5th floor staff at St. Mary's Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Cathy and her family.
