Obituary for Francis John Hess

Hess, Francis

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, August 2nd, 2014 at the age 76. Beloved husband of Ginny Hess (nee Schaaf). Incredible father of Michelle Bigard (Paul), Ann Wilhelm (John), Paul Hess (Joanne) and Roger Hess (Christine). Awesome grandfather of Ben, Hayley, Niki, Aidan, Jacob, Noah, Brooklyn and Laura. Dear brother of Henry (Pat), Bill (Cathy), Doug, brothers in law Peter Janzen, Steve Fraser, Jack Schaaf (Jackie), and sisters in law June Slater (Dick), and Marilyn Schaaf. Predeceased by his father Harold Hess, mother Catherine (nee Forwell), sisters Joan Janzen and Connie Fraser and sister-in-law Mary Beth Hess.

Frank made significant contributions as a leader in the Canadian meat packing industry during a career that spanned 50 years at JM Schneiders and M&M Meat Shops. He was a valued mentor to many who benefited from his insights and guidance. Frank loved life and made the most of every minute. He was an avid marathon runner completing his last race at the age of 70. Frank loved to ski, spending many winters on the slopes at Silver Star, BC. As a true lover of the outdoors Frank fished, golfed, boated, and cottaged at Sauble Beach. He completed the Bruce Trail, Chilcoot Trail (Alaska), and Machu Pichu Trail (Peru). He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, KW Granite Curling Club, and the YMCA. He was an engaging story teller, and loved the many sing alongs with his brothers and uncles. Frank could BBQ anything to perfection while listening to Johnny Cash, with a draft beer in hand.

Frank's family will receive relatives and friends at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener (519-749-8467) on Tuesday from 7 - 9 pm and Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at Blessed Sacrament RC Church, 305 Laurentian Drive, Kitchener on Thursday, August 7 at 11 am with Fr. Mark Morley officiating. Reception to follow at the Parish Hall.

Frank and his family are grateful for the care received from the compassionate staff at Winston Park, Eby Village. Donations to the Alzheimers Society would be appreciated. Visit www.henrywalser.com for Frank's memorial.
