Speech from Grandpa's funeral

I just wanted to say a few words about my Grandpa Gottschalk.After having one brother, 2 sons, many nephews I dont think he realized at the time how lucky he was to have 4 granddaughters to come into his life. Some memories that my sister and myself had about my Grandpa. When Jamie and myself were really little he taught us the song, Ela mein a enchin. We constantly asked him to sing it to us whenever we were together. On school holidays when we stayed with my Grandparents we were always asking him to take us to the store to buy chocolate bars and Lottery tickets which he never said no to. You could always find licorice and other types of candies in his drawers. We spent a lot of time at my grandparents cottage at Conestoga lake. Grandpa was always up at 4am and was fishing on the dock. If it was raining he was at the kitchen table with his crosswords and of course having a cigarette. Grandpa was always there for school events, graduations, volleyball games and dancing recitals. He even dropped into the highschool to check off a Grandpa item in a scavenger hunt. He was a lot of the time the chauffer for my sister and I when my parents were away. Twenty-five years later Emma and Grace had some different memories of our Grandpa although some were the same. He used to take them for rides down the street on his motorized wheelchair. He even showed up at their daycare once to take them for a spin. He was always giving them chocolate as a treat. Whenever my Uncle showed up at Pinehaven he was always asking How are my girls? He did become a great grandfather six years ago to Elsa, Ewan and Sebbie and although they didnt get much time with him, Sebbie was always surprised that he was sleeping in his chair all the time. Funnily enough Sebbie also noticed that he only wore one sock all the time! When I told my children that the Old Grandpa had passed away Elsa said, Hes with the angels now.
