Obituary for Susan DeMatteo

DeMatteo, Susan Lori (Van Camp)

Recently passed away in Florida on Friday August 18, 2017. Born on July 25, 1961, in Oshawa to parents: Thelma (Nickel) and Swain Van Camp. Susan moved with her family, including older sister Sandra and brother Scott to Waterloo, in 1965. She attended a number of schools, Lincoln Heights, Bluevale Collegiate, Conestoga College and later graduated with a Psychology degree from the University of Waterloo. Susan in every aspect of her being was a dedicated nurse. She was a natural “care-giver” as well as being energetic, inclusive, and a person always positive in her approach to life and family. She always delighted in organizing the spoofs and surprises for friends and family. Sue had a love to travel, and as part of that organized many trips for herself, family and friends, never excluding anyone in her organizing. Her vibrant personality touched and changed many lives for the better, as she always looked out for others, in her caring approach to life.
Sue met Bill DeMatteo during a family trip to Daytona Beach in 1979, and this was the beginning of their whirlwind romance and subsequent close to 40 year life in the Sunshine State. Susan and Bill became the parents of 3 beautiful, dynamic girls, Kristie, Danielle and the youngest Nikki, who recently graduated from Florida State University. Sue has been described by others as "the happiest person they have ever known". Sue will be missed greatly by her friends and family, in Canada, Florida, and her relatives everywhere.
Susan's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 10, starting at 2 pm, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home: 507 Frederick St, 519-749-8467. Memories of Susan's life will be shared at 3 pm, reception to follow. Expressions of sympathies should be directed to Parkminster United Church, Carizon Family and Community Services or KW Counselling Services (cards available at the funeral home).
