Many years ago, I volunteered some of my time at Ron Day's Kitchener Kicks. I used to answer the phone, sign up new members, sell uniforms & equipment, among other things, for Si Gung Ron Day. I was there a couple of nights per week, as well as on Saturday mornings. Often Grand Master Pan would come in to the club after the classes were finished in the evenings, to do some training of his own. He was always very kind & polite to me and although he didn't speak much english he would always say, "Hello Elizabeth." That would make me smile & I would say, "Good evening, Grand Master Pan."
I can't remember what year it was exactly, but it was probably either November 2001 or 2002, when my family & I attended the annual Kitchener Kicks Christmas party. Adults & children were ALL welcome. There were always awards given out for different achievements and the party was a lot of fun. Unbeknownst to me, Grand Master Pan had a gift for me that night. Needless to say I was shocked & surprised when he called me up to the stage & presented me with a beautiful Chinese plaque. If I remember correctly he said he wanted to give me something because I was always so happy at the club & he liked it when I was there.
I never studied martial arts but I was so honoured to have been given such a lovely gift. Grand Master Pan's kindness towards me that evening has never been forgotten.
My sincerest sympathies to Grand Master Pan's family. May he rest in peace.
