I got to know John when I worked at Now and Then Books as a teenager in the 1980s. He was extraordinarily patient and generous in sharing his comics knowledge and music with with me. By conversing with me as an adult an peer, he made a lasting impression even though cumulatively I probably spent only hours in his company. It was only much later that learned of his contributions at the begining of Canadian comics fandom. I saw him only a couple of times in recent years but his visits to my own shop were always a treat.
